It’s difficult to get banned because they are attempting to give participants the opportunity to do better, optimizing for discussion potential. It’s not impossible, but it can happen if you run out of chances.
I emailed the moderators now. They probably didn't see your "I no longer want to be on orange reddit. Permaban me." post yesterday. Usually they're responsive, might take a couple of days.
One thing that is clear which is a bannable offence is self-promotion and posting links back to your own website in the comments. That isn't allowed here, especially on a repeated basis.
Being rude to right-wingers is the easiest way to get banned.
HN is intended as a safe-space for right-wing extremists, fascists, and bigots, and truly reprehensible views are permitted here so long as the language used offers a fig leaf of deniability.
Being rude to left-wingers does not have the same effect, because dang has dedicated his life to making sure that billionaires are coddled. He does not give a single solitary fuck about poor people.
So basically, if you want to get banned, find somebody posting racist garbage and call them on it. Dang will fly in to ensure that the racist isn't discomforted in the slightest, and feels even better about their racism.
I'm confident that my accurate description of Dang, and his actual effect on society, will get me banned here. Dang does not like it when you point out that he is a net negative on all of society; and that his life's work is ensuring that Paul Graham and friends feel safe to be bigoted assholes.
